COLTEC was founded in 1990 by Dr. Taghride Anbar, creator of the applied Natural Language Processing (NLP) models COLTEC uses. As a result of over twenty years of research, Dr. Taghride developed a proprietary linguistic theory enabling the complex rules and conventions of Arabic to be effectively and efficiently applied to process Arabic information for use by Western languages.

This was made possible by her deep knowledge of, and experience with, computational linguistic theory, linguistic research, and traditional and modern Arabic language studies. Over the past two decades, Dr. Taghride has held a number of international academic and corporate positions at the Universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Alexandira, and Berlin; the UN, ALESCO, IBM Scientific Research Center, and the Egyptian government.

Currently the Chief Scientist at COLTEC, Dr. Taghride also holds the position of Department Head of African Languages in the Al-Alson Faculty, Ain Shams University.
